Dear Dr. Ivan Aksentijevic,
I would like to express my gratitude, both personally and on behalf of the Urgent Center of the University Clinical Center of Serbia, to the Serbian-American Medical Association from Maryland, USA, and to you personally as the president of the association, as well as to Mr. Zoran Mladenovic and Mr. Branko Palikuca, the Topaz restaurant from Chicago, for the donation of 10 intermittent pneumatic compression devices with accompanying sets of compression sleeves.
The prevention of life-threatening complications of venous thromboembolism with modern methods cannot be imagined without the application of active mechanical prophylaxis with intermittent pneumatic compression. The application of intermittent compression is necessary in preventing the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms not only in patients with contraindications for anticoagulant therapy but also in those for whom the use of only medication-based anticoagulant approaches does not provide a sufficient level of protection against the mentioned life-threatening complications. The implementation of optimal prophylaxis and prevention of complications, especially those resulting from venous thromboembolism, which is difficult to diagnose in a large number of cases worldwide or is recognized in terminal late stages, is one of the main principles of modern medicine. The success of surgeries and patient survival depends not only on the skill of the surgical team but also on preventing the occurrence of complications that can threaten the patient’s life in the postoperative course.
Thanks to the received equipment, the treatment of a significant number of patients treated in the surgical and internist departments of the Urgent Center of the UCCS, which cares for vital complex patients from not only the entire Serbia but also wider areas, will be improved.
It was agreed with the director of the Urgent Center of the UCCS, Doc. Dr. Marko Hercegovac, to print a special certificate of gratitude to the Serbian-American Medical Association for the donation made. Many thanks for this significant humanitarian endeavor.
Sincerely,
Professor Dr. Neboj’a Antonijevic
