Critical Care at Risk: Your Support Can Save Five Rural Health Centers in Serbia

Healthcare in rural Serbia is at a tipping point. Many health centers, essential to the well-being of thousands, are struggling to stay operational due to crumbling infrastructure and severe shortages of basic resources. This year, SAMA is focusing on five health centers in underserved rural areas that are on the brink of failure. Without immediate repairs and upgrades, these centers will no longer be able to provide the essential care their communities rely on. Your support is urgently needed to prevent their collapse and restore safe, functional healthcare to these vulnerable regions.

Without Functional Infrastructure, Healthcare is Severely Limited

The ability to provide quality medical care starts with having safe, functional facilities. In rural Serbia, crumbling health centers with broken windows, insufficient heating, and outdated equipment severely hinder the ability of doctors and nurses to deliver effective treatment. Even the most skilled healthcare professionals are limited without proper infrastructure, leaving patients without the care they urgently need. By addressing these failures, we can empower healthcare workers to offer life-saving services and drastically improve outcomes for entire communities. Upgrading these facilities is not just a cosmetic fix—it’s a critical step in restoring health and hope to Serbia’s most vulnerable populations.

The Health Centers in Need

After reviewing over 40 applications, SAMA has identified five health centers that can create the greatest impact with financial support. These facilities provide critical care to vulnerable populations but are operating under dire conditions, lacking the basic necessities like functioning toilets, heat, and even reliable heating and lighting.

Here’s an overview of the five selected health centers and the improvements they desperately need:

1. Health Center Usce in the Kraljevo Region

Needs: New ceiling with insulation, LED lighting installation (40 panels), gutter installation, facade repair, complete floor replacement, windows (21) and doors (15) replacement, and interior painting. Estimated: $90K

2. Health Center Gornja Trnava in Topola

Needs: Needs: Complete floor replacement, window (1) and door (1) replacement, new lighting installation, new toilet, new heating system with 9 radiators, and interior painting.

Estimated: $19K

3. Health Center Belusic in Rekovac

Needs: Ceiling with integrated lighting, interior painting, and roof replacement (roof not included in current scope).

Estimated: $16K

4. Health Center Aleksandrovo in Srpska Crnja

Needs: Windows (10) and doors (11) replacement, and entrance stairway rehabilitation.

Estimated:$18K

5. Health Center Rabrovo in Kucevo Needs: Windows (7) and entry door replacement.

Estimated: $9K

These health centers serve as lifelines for their communities, but their crumbling infrastructure severely limits their ability to provide quality, safe care. By upgrading these facilities, we can significantly improve the health and well-being of thousands of Serbs living in rural, underserved regions.

To support the critical upgrades these health centers need, SAMA is hosting its 6th Annual Fundraising Event at Topaz Café in Burr Ridge, Illinois, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. This event will raise vital funds to help ensure that these health centers can continue serving their communities with dignity and compassion.
