Trebinje is one of the largest city in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its oncologic center treats about 200 patients daily. Unfortunately, the medical staff and the patients are working in extremely poor conditions.
In addition to have to work in inadequate space and old infrastructure, the medical staff is lacking the most basic equipment to adequately care for oncologic patients. One of the main issues is the lack of an operational laminar hood where to mix chemotherapy in a safe and sterile conditions. As a result of this, nurses and pharmacists are continuously exposed to chemicals that are often carcinogenic. Also, they do not the infusion pump to administer the drug per protocol.
December 24, 2021, we purchase a chemical laminar hood and five infusions pumps. We expect these to be delivered in the next month or so. Update to follow…
